Team Milky Way which is a combination of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering students who will follow this competition. The team managed to make 350 cc formula car with the name of the Milky Way to follow the SAE Formula Student competition 9th of Japan 2011.
The competition is organized by the Japan Society of Automotive Engineers (JSAE). The competition will be held on 5 to 9 September 2011 in ECOPA (Ogasayama Sports Park) Japan.
The launching is done in Koesnadi Hardjasoemantri House Cultural Center, University of Gadjah Mada (UGM), in Bulaksumur, Yogyakarta on Tuesday (7/19/2011) by Rector Prof. Ir Sudjarwadi, MSc, PhD.
Milky Way is a formula car made in the Milky Way GMU team which was selected as the sole representative of Indonesia who will compete in the international competition. Milky Way 86 teams will compete with prestigious universities from several countries. Some of them are China, India, Japan, South Korea, Pakistan, Australia and Thailand.
Milky Way UGM team of 16 student Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Engineering. The sixteen students didamping three lecturers is Dr. Fauzun S.T., M.T., Dr. Muhammad the Great Bramantya ST., MT., M. Eng., And Dr. I Gusti Budi Dharma S.T., M. Eng.
"The car is the Milky Way according to the standard formula car class car with a qualifying student under a formula 1 car, but still above the car go-kart," said the team's technical coordinator of the Milky Way, Akmal Irfan Majid told reporters after the test drive.
"We must use imported materials. For a car it takes about 12 rod frame, whereas a cigarette prices ranging from Rp 1.5 million," he said.
Akmal adds, the team hopes to reach the Milky Way UGM best results in the competition. For the newcomer are aware of the competition intense competition.
